Jazz Quintet was written in 1978 for members of the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and was premiered in the same year. It involves elements of jazz, but is constructed from a twelve tone row, following the tuba and trombone's statement of that row in an opening bass line. The work is virtuosic in each voice, with technique necessary to voice each part and a collection of mutes that provide color and unique sounds through the work.
Jazz Quintet was recorded by Rose City Brass Quintet on their 2021 recording Disquiet.
